At the beginning of April I started a book club with THIS book, Under The Shadows by Emelia Abraham and here is my review!
Now my rating scale is a bit complex, I will admit but I feel it’s much more thorough than just a standard 5 stars. Which I also do but I like to rate spice as well… in 3 different categories.
I rate spice level, spice quality, and spice intensity.
Spice Level
- 1 🌶Only kissing
- 2 🌶Insinuated sex
- 3 🌶Fade to black
- 4 🌶Romantic fluffy Smut
- 5 🌶Detailed smut
Spice Intensity
- 1 🌶Vanilla
- 2 🌶Some kink
- 3 🌶Includes triggers
- 4 🌶Kink specific (edging, dom/sub, knife play, etc.)
- 5 🌶almost too much for me
And Spice Quality is similar to a general rating and pretty self-explanatory.
UNDER THE SHADOWS REVIEW
Rating : 3/5 🖤🖤🖤
Spice Level: 5/5 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
Spice Quality: 4/5 🌶🌶🌶🌶
Spice Intensity: 4/5 🌶🌶🌶🌶
Review: From the start of this book it was super easy to get into, I was immediately super intrigued by all the guys and how they meet our girl Sam throughout the book. I really love how the guys slowly start to open up to her and the ONLY reason this is a 3 and not a 4 for me is because I’m not a fan of Shane at the end of the book. He has his moments that I LOOOOVE, I just didn’t feel like he opened up to her enough and was still being too guarded with her at the end. If this was the first of 2 books with this grouple(Group couple) I would have NO complaints at all. I LOVE so many moments with the men of this book from Alex obsessing over her from the jump, to the scene where Shane gives her a dress and tells her to change, to Ren holding space with her by the lake. They’ve all got a different vibe and love her in different ways, as any good Why-choose romance should.
Overall this book was really good, I enjoyed the writing and it was so easy to get into the story and feel how the characters were feeling. There were a lot of intense moments that I loved, that made me mad, and made me cry.
I definitely recommend it if you prefer books that are darker in the romance part and not only the plot.
